VENTING DAY

Space is cold, but people can be colder. You are on The Damocles, a spacecraft pulling towards Persephone Prime. Before docking, the ship must go through venting, required atmospheric cleansing of the ship. Everyone will gather on the bridge to wait for the process to end. With passengers and crew sealed up, anything could be revealed.

Venting Day takes place in three alternate universes where The Damocles and those aboard change roles based on the nature of the universe. Your character may be a pilot, a priest, and then a gambler, but the character is essentially the same person. A fourth scene will draw the game to a conclusion.

Venting Day is an emotionally narrative game that focuses on role-play for 7 players.

Rules and Items

There will be no combat, invention or puzzles - just Roleplay
If you want to fight, work it out theatrically
If you want to heal someone or use some tech equipment, Roleplay it
Some props will be available, but you can mime other items
No item cards or special abilities
You can voice activate the ships’ computer, the GM, to get information

Area of Play

Venting Day takes place on the small bridge of the Damocles.  The bridge is sealed and the characters are stuck on the bridge for the duration of each vignette.

Costuming

Costuming for this game will be vaguely science-fiction futuristic.  Each character has a specific flavor, and you will get notes on how the character in question dresses.  This is not a high costume game, although one or two characters could have more elaborate costuming than the others.

Setting

The setting of Venting Day will alter in four consecutive vignettes.  Players will get a basic character description and details about the world of the first scene when they are cast (see below).  Vignettes two and three will include a bluesheet on the nature of the universe and a brief new write up for how this universe has changed the character and inter-character relationships.  The fourth and final vignette will be introduced by the GM.

The Damocles, the Galactic Corporation, and Rock ‘n’ Roll

The year is 2170 and it is a good time to be alive.  The Galactic Corporations have expanded through twenty habitable solar systems and the fast fusion warp drives enable ships to travel between systems in a matter of weeks rather than years.  Profits are up and decadence can be found everywhere.  Art, literature, and music rule the day, but some say man has forgotten the primal joy of survival.

The Starship Damocles is a clean and tidy passenger craft in the Virgin Galactic fleet with the latest luxuries for wealthy clients.  Virgin Galactic usually hires the craft out to the finest government officials, zillionaires, and celebrities, but this week it has been hired out by the trendy rock band, Star-Stained, one of the hedonistic signs of the times.

Star-Stained is on their third album and recently replaced their keyboard and bass players, half the band!  They are traveling to Persephone Prime for a holiday festival concert that will last for a week.  They have been on board since last Monday, and are due to disembark in a few hours.

But first you have to go through Venting Day.  The term comes from the required process of cleansing and sterilizing the ship that requires venting the atmosphered out of the hull.  During this day, all crew members would have to go to sterilized quarters or the bridge and wait.  Now, venting is much shorter, but still painfully long on a ship like this which has a very small, sealed bridge. Still, Venting must occur before Star-Stained can disembark on Docking Station, Persephone B.
